Pro-Human Policy in the Age of AI
Executive Summary
We call on U.S. policymakers to ensure that economic and technological policy in the age of artificial intelligence prioritizes the dignity, agency, and flourishing of American citizens—not merely GDP growth, corporate profits, or productivity gains. AI should serve people and society, not weaken work, families, or democratic self-government.
The Petition
To the President of the United States, Members of Congress, and Federal Policymakers:
We, the undersigned citizens, urge the United States to adopt a pro-human orientation toward economic and technological policy in the age of artificial intelligence—one that places citizens, workers, families, and communities at the center of national decision-making.
AI is already reshaping employment and civic life, displacing entry-level and middle-class pathways while also enabling large-scale manipulation through synthetic media, impersonation, and control over attention and behavior. An economy that maximizes GDP, efficiency, or corporate profit while weakening employment, family stability, human agency, and democratic trust cannot be considered truly prosperous.
We therefore call on our leaders to evaluate and shape U.S. economic and AI-related policy by whether it encourages employment, supports the citizenry, protects human agency, and promotes broad-based flourishing—not merely by what it produces—and to apply this objective consistently across key areas of public policy, including:
- Tax and fiscal policy, to ensure labor is not disadvantaged relative to capital
- Labor and employment policy
- Trade and offshoring policy
- AI development and governance
- Competition and market structure
- Data, privacy, and information integrity (e.g. a Digital Bill of Rights to address protection against impersonation, synthetic media, and large-scale deception)
- Education, workforce entry, and human development
This is not a rejection of innovation. It is an affirmation that innovation must remain accountable to the people and society it is meant to serve.

I am a free and equal citizen,
joined with others in common trust.
I believe that power belongs to the people,
and that government exists to serve the governed.
I will think for myself,
act with honesty,
and treat others with respect.
